Screening: Film and Te Tēpu episode - Monday 23 July

Attend a free screening of He Wawata Whaea – Dreams of an Elder: the life story of Merimeri Penfold, a remarkable woman who has been a leading champion of Māori language and culture. This will be followed by a screening of an episode of Te Tēpu with language experts, kaumatua, and the world’s leading practitioners of te Reo Māori.

Free event, all welcome. Come along to enjoy some refreshments and learn about new video and research-related resources that the Library has created for you. These include a subject guide for Te Kura Māori; instructional videos about Library resources, recorded in te Reo; and a multi-campus video showcasing Māori and Pasifika resources and collection strengths at each of our six Library locations.

Attend a free screening of some short films in honour of te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2012.

Flight of the Hookioi - A documentary in which film maker Tearapa Kahi traces the voyage to Europe in 1859 of two Tainui chiefs who travelled to Austria at the invitation of the emperor, where they became the toast of high society.

Two Cars, One Night - At night, in a car parked by the Te Kaha Hotel and Pub in rural New Zealand, two brothers sit waiting for their parents. While Ed is reading a book, Romeo notices a girl about their age sitting in a car not far away, also waiting for her parents.

War Party - Returning raiders haul a massive waka taua (war canoe) through dense Waitakere bush, driven by their chief towards safety. Two water-boys are crouched in the bow. One of them risks abold act of compassion — towards the trophy prisoner tied to the stern.
