We support students who live outside the Wellington area with a distance lending service. Using the Distance service, you can:
Please contact the Distance Lending team as soon as possible to advise us of any changes in your address. You will also need to inform your Faculty.
Anyone enrolled in an approved Victoria University distance learning course has access to our Distance Lending service. Postgraduates living outside the Wellington region can also apply for access.
If you are away from Wellington temporarily but need access to an academic library, you can:
You can also use your university username and password to access almost all our online resources from anywhere in the world.
Items on closed reserve may not be borrowed. However, you can submit a request for them and the Distance team will send you a copy of their table of contents, allowing you to select a chapter to be copied for you.
Three-day loan and one-week loan items may be borrowed; they are issued for 10 days, to allow for postage.
There is no additional charge for using the Distance Lending service. Material sent to you by post will include a prepaid envelope to return it in.
Interloans carry their standard charges.
Fines for overdue material remain the same. You will be fined if material issued to you has not arrived at the Library by its indicated due date; it is not sufficient for it to be postmarked by the due date.
Distance items are issued for 14 days to undergraduates, and 28 days to postgraduates. The clock starts when the item is posted to you. Items must be received by the Library on or before the indicated due date.
Three-day loan and one-week loan books are issued for 10 days, and sent by FastPost.
We try to act on requests within one working day of receipt. If an item you have requested has to be obtained from another campus library, there may be a slight delay.
Items that must be posted are sent by standard post, except three-day loan books, which are sent FastPost.
If you are enrolled in any Victoria University distance course, you have automatic access to this service. Postgraduates who are not distance students but live outside the Wellington region can also apply for access--please contact the Distance team for more information.
