Language Learning Centre - Te Pūtahi Reo

Our mission is to support all the languages taught at our university: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Māori, Samoan, Chinese, Japanese, and English as a Second Language

The Collection

Our collection consists of both print and multimedia items in all the languages taught at Victoria. Among the former, we have course materials, practice books, magazines and graded readers with audio at all levels. Among the latter, we offer language learning software (some with voice recognition function), feature films and documentaries, as well as music and audio. In addition to our local resources, our website provides a gateway to free online learning material from across the web.

Special Collections

The LLC has a wide range of foreign language films – most of them viewable with English subtitles. These not only provide enjoyable exposure to authentic speech – they also help students become more familiar with the historical and contemporary socio-cultural context of the target language.

For practising the target language in interactive group settings, the LLC offers a collection of foreign language board games: from German Monopoly to Japanese Cluedo, these games encourage students to actively use and have fun with language.

Opening Hours

The LLC is open on weekdays all year round. It is located on Level 0 of the Von Zedlitz Building, 28 Kelburn Parade.

Monday to Friday: 8:45 am to 5 pm
Weekends and public holidays: closed
