Search first, then refine your search results. Type in the search box a title of a book, a journal article, etc. or your research topic. Avoid making questions such as What does Modernism mean? or How does quantum theory work?, instead type Modernism or quantum theory.
Te Waharoa automatically excludes Book Reviews and Newspaper Articles from the initial search. You will need to click on 'keep search refinements' if you want those limits to remain.
You’ll find a gray pane to the left of your search results (see below). Tick boxes in the pane to limit your search results. You can tick as many boxes as you like. Simply untick the boxes to remove the limits.

Click 'more' beneath any refine type to see more ways to refine or limit your search. You can choose to include or exclude things from your results.

Use double quotation marks (for example, European sovereign debt crisis
) to search two or more words as a phrase.
Use the asterisk (*) to truncate words (for example, bank* will search for bank, bankers, banking, etc.).
Te Waharoa supports AND, OR and NOT (type in CAPS). By default, all search terms are combined with AND.
Type as many search terms as you like to get specific results (for example, European sovereign debt crisis
government bank* credit rating
NOT Greece).
