Welcome to Victoria. If you're new to the University or to study in general, the Library is here to help support your learning and research, and help you get the most out of your time here.
You can access a large part of the millions of resources in our collection through this website.
If you'd like some more help, or if you have questions, our Ask a Librarian service is always available, by phone, email, or instant message. Or ask in person at the Issue Desk at any library.
Don't forget to check our frequently asked questions, too.
Watch some of our video tutorials for quick video introductions to research techniques and Library resources.
Learn about our libraries and special collections and find out where we are on Victoria's four campuses.
Or check out our guides to common research tasks and Recommended Resources Lists to find where to start your research.
Student Learning Support offer one-to-one services and workshops to help you learn study and research skills and deal with student life.
The Library provides many kinds of resources and support for teaching and research staff.
A library tour helps you find your way around one of our libraries and learn how to get the most out of its resources. The Central Library operates a regularly scheduled programme of tours. For other libraries, please approach library staff to inquire.
These tours take about 15 minutes, and depart from the Issue Desk. You can book a place on a tour using the sign-up sheet available from the Issue Desk.
Groups can book tours outside these times. Please contact library-tours@vuw.ac.nz to inquire about arranging a tour for your group.
These classes offer a more in-depth introduction to the resources available in the Library. They take about 30 minutes, and scheduled in conjunction with library tours--when signing up for the tour at the Issue Desk please indicate your interest in the class. These classes are limited to 15 people, so it is advisable to book in advance.
EndNote is an advanced piece of reference management software that you can use to keep track of your research and make managing your footnotes and bibliographies much simpler. The University pays for a site license that makes EndNote available to all Victoria University students and staff, and the Library provides EndNote training and support to help you learn how to use it to the fullest.
Zotero is a free research manager extension for the Firefox web browser that helps you organise your research materials and generate bibliographies. We offer introductory courses on managing your references with Zotero.
